About

Hello – good to see you here!

My name is Zhenya Starkova and I am the main experimenter on this blog. I hope you will find information published here stimulating, enjoyable as well as useful, and be sure to drop me a line if you have any suggestions or ideas.

About Communication Experiments

The field of communication is gaining strength year on year, emerging as a new integrated discipline. It has a respectable foundation in the academic world and in the applied sciences, and it is very satisfying to see that fragmentation is rapidly morphing into sub-specialization. With PR, advertising, employee engagement, branding and stakeholder relations formally associated with a whole rage of specialists, we are now proudly consolidating all of that under a banner of a unified nation of communicators.

At least, this is my way of looking at it.

I find this process of integration fascinating. In the last couple of decades, the field of communication has stepped out of the cradle, but it is still in its formative years. As any adolescent, it challenges authority, tests its limits, follows all sorts of trends – all in the name of finding its own self. It is a great time to observe and engage with these developments. It is a great time to experiment!

About Zhenya Starkova

I am one of those enthusiasts, who believe in the power of communication and its ability to resolve complex organisational issues.  At the same time, I like to question set rules and common practices and remind myself not to become too set in my use of communication methodology. I treat this blog is an opportunity to be more experimental in my approach to communication practice.

I enjoy working in all fields of communication, although my strength lies with corporate identity issues, integration of internal and external communication processes, engagement and change management. I am also interested in communication technology – it is a very powerful (and delightedly/annoyingly unpredictable) sister-field.

My family and I have spent a few years here and there, landing in the Netherlands for the time being. Currently, I am heading communications at an international non-profit organisation and alongside I usually run one or two consulting projects.
